The McHenry Mansion, built in 1883 by Robert McHenry, prominent local rancher/banker, is a fine example of the
Victorian Italianate style of architecture. In 1923, it was converted into apartments and remained as such until 1976 when
the Julio R. Gallo Foundation purchased it and donated it to the City of Modesto for restoration and for community use. The
Mansion is decorated and furnished with antiques appropriate to the period when Robert and his wife, Matilda inhabited the
Mansion (1883-1896). The McHenry Mansion is on the National Register of Historic places and is accredited by the American
Association of Museums. It is owned and operated by the City of Modesto.

2004 DESIGN: Southern Pacific Cab Forward DESIGNER: Douglas Daniels
MINTAGE: 100 Silver (numbered) 100 Antique Bronze 100 Bronze This medal commemorates the 50th anniversary of the last appearance of the
Southern Pacific Cab Forward locomotive in Stanislaus County. Cab Forwards were a distinct trademark of the Southern Pacific. They are sometimes
also called “Cab-in fronts” or "Backup Mallies". In 1908 the Southern Pacific ordered two mallets classified MC-1 for a trial
run up the Sierra Nevada. During this run there was a problem with a great volume of exhaust
gasses that almost asphyxiated the crew. A team of Southern Pacific design engineers came up with a plan and designs for a
mallet with the cab in front, classified MC-2, to greatly reduce the exhaust gasses the crew had to breathe. Southern Pacific
had Baldwin build 15 that were delivered in February and March of 1910.

2005 DESIGN: Burge's Drive-In, Modesto, CA DESIGNER: Michael Tandy
MINTAGE: 100 Silver (numbered) 100 Antique Bronze 100 Bronze Burge's Drive-In opened around
1952 and closed its doors in approximately 1966. It was located at 1514 9th Street (corner of 9th and "O" Streets)
near the downtown cruising on 10th & 11th Streets. It was a round building with intercom ordering systems, roller-skating
carhops to deliver your order right to your car and jukeboxes blasting tunes from the 50's and 60's. The drive-in and cruising
scenes inspired George Lucas's film "American Graffiti". It was based on his experiences as a teenager in Modesto.
Burge's Drive-In was a place where kids showed off their cars while observing who was there, and with whom. The drive-in was
a relatively inexpensive way to spend a leisurely summer evening.

DESIGN: 7th Street Bridge, Modesto, CA
DESIGNER: Joan Alvarez
MINTAGE: 100 Silver (numbered) 100 Antique Bronze 100 Bronze
In 1916 construction began
to replace the old wooden wagon bridge that crossed the Tuolumne River. This would be the only bridge built entirely of concrete.
The new bridge was dedicated March 17, 1917, by breaking a bottle of milk on the lion at the south end of the bridge. The
reason behind using milk was that under a state option law, Stanislaus County voted to go DRY. There was discussion of tearing
down the old bridge, but historians rose to its defense and in 1963 it was retrofitted and strengthened. The lions on both
ends of the bridge, used from medieval times to guard public buildings, were restored by volunteers.
